August 22, 2019
New York, NY – On August 21, Amida Care, a not-for-profit New York community health plan, hosted a community fitness event at the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation Amphitheatre in Brooklyn. The evening included free fun fitness activities, led by Alwayz Fit 4 Lyfe. This event was part of Amida Care’s “Live Your Life” program, a concerted effort to keep healthy and active lifestyles at the center of people’s everyday lives. The event was made possible with support from New York City Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr.
“At Amida Care, we know that a holistic approach is necessary for healthy living. To live a well-balanced life, you need more than medication and doctor’s visits. We feel it is extremely important that our members’ social, physical, and emotional needs are being met year-round. Our ‘Live Your Life’ events were created exactly for that purpose: to encourage people to be physically active, eat healthy, and take care of their social and mental wellbeing on a regular basis. We’re thankful to have the support of Council Member Cornegy to help Brooklynites live their healthiest, most authentic lives,” said Doug Wirth, President and CEO of Amida Care.
Amida Care holds monthly Live Your Life wellness events throughout the five boroughs of New York City, where members and their guests learn about ways to get and stay healthy. In addition to fun and active fitness classes, the events cover topics such as healthy cooking, art therapy, dance, meditation, aromatherapy, and more.
“Maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle has always been a priority of mine. I am glad to support Amida Care’s ‘Live Your Life’ wellness events, which enable members of our community to come together, enjoy some exercise, and have fun at the same time. Events like this are essential to maintaining wellness all year long, and I’m proud to partner with Amida Care to make them happen,” said New York City Council Member Robert E. Cornegy, Jr. (D-36 Brooklyn).
