Doug Wirth, President and CEO of Amida Care, accepted the award on behalf of Amida Care. Wirth thanked Amida Care’s sponsors and network of providers, whose collaboration with Amida Care helps to make their health outcomes possible, including curing 400 of their members of Hepatitis C. Frank Laufer of the AIDS Institute introduced Wirth and a video presentation that included stories from Amida Care members and staff.

Other honorees included Allan W. Wolkoff, MD of Montefiore and Albert Einstein for the Physician of the Year; AbbVie, who sponsored this event, for Corporate Partner of the Year; and Greg Flood, President of IronPro for Humanitarian of the Year. Amy Freeze, Meteorologist on WABC-TV, served as the Master of Ceremonies. More than 400 guests attended the gala in support of the American Liver Foundation’s dedication toward research, prevention, treatment, and cure of liver disease, which affects 30 million Americans.

«Amida Care thanks the American Liver Foundation for the Spirit of New York award and applauds them along with our fellow honorees for fighting liver disease,» says Doug Wirth, President and CEO of Amida Care. «As New York’s largest Special Needs Health Plan, Amida Care is proud to provide a unique model of care that responds to the specialized, complex health care needs of New Yorkers.»

Amida Care’s integrated care model has proven to be extremely effective for the thousands of New Yorkers that Amida Care serves. With a mission-driven approach and strong emphasis on improving the quality of life for individual members, Amida Care has established a reputation as a wellness community. Approximately one of three people with HIV are co-infected with HCV. Co-infection can cause higher levels of HCV in the blood, a faster progression of HCV and an increased risk for cirrhosis of the liver. Through Amida Care’s high quality, coordinated care and wide network of top health care providers, each person gets integrated care that best meets their individual needs.

More than just a health care plan, Amida Care helps members achieve the best quality of life possible by working closely with each member to provide support and services that address the whole person—physical, mental, and emotional. Amida Care’s integrated care team also helps members with social determinants of health such as secure housing, employment, legal concerns, food insecurity, and transportation.
