Amida Care and TransLatinx Network Call for Unity in Fight for Bodily Autonomy

July 12 2022

(NEW YORK, NY) – Amida Care, New York’s largest Medicaid managed care Special Needs health Plan serving people impacted by HIV, and Translatinx Network, a nonprofit with a mission to promote the healthy development of trans people, has released the following statement calling for cisgender and LGBTQAI+ people to stand together in the fight for bodily autonomy in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson that overturned Roe v. Wade:

“Trans and non-binary people have long had their bodies policed by society, institutions, health care, and through legislation.  We at Translatinx Network and Amida Care believe that the fight for the right to bodily autonomy affects us all. Inclusive language is also an important part in discussing the right to reproductive health care and sexual wellness. While the human right to make decisions about our own bodies is under attack, it’s important we stick together.

As we go forward in advocating for our courts and legislators to protect our reproductive health care rights, we must remain united. Cisgender, transgender, non-binary, and LGB+ people are all in this together, and we should remain undivided as we continue this important fight to protect our freedoms.”
