Amida Care Proudly Participates in NYC LGBTQ Pride March

June 26 2017

Amida Care was a proud participant in the 48th annual NYC Pride March in Manhattan on June 25th. With thousands of spectators lining the two-mile route and hundreds of groups participating, New York City’s March is the largest in the world. A team of staffers, members, and friends of Amida Care marched and rode on Amida Care’s Pride float with the theme: “Be Yourself…With Pride!” Amida Care specializes in helping members living with chronic conditions such as HIV to get and stay well so they can live their most authentic, best lives.

Organized by Heritage of Pride, Inc., the Pride March is a part of NYC Pride Week’s events throughout Manhattan for LGBTQ and allied people of all ages. Serving as Grand Marshals of the March were Brooke Guinan, transgender woman and FDNY firefighter; Krishna Stone, the director of community relations at Gay Men’s Health Crisis; Geng Le, a leader of the LGBTQ equality movement in the People’s Republic of China; and representatives of the American Civil Liberties Union.

The March route began at 36th Street and 5th Avenue and ended near the Stonewall Inn. The Amida Care float audio team played “I Will Survive” in front of the historic Stonewall Inn where the first NYC Pride March took place in 1970, one year after the 1969 Stonewall Riots. New York City will be the first WorldPride location in the United States in 2019, celebrating the Stonewall Riots’ 50th Anniversary.
