Amida Care Thanks NYC Council Members for Supporting “Live Your Life” Community Wellness Events

September 12 2017

Not-for-profit New York community health plan Amida Care thanks New York City Council Members Robert E. Cornegy, Jr., Laurie Cumbo, and Ritchie Torres for allocating funds to support Amida Care’s “Live Your Life” wellness program. Amida Care holds free monthly Live Your Life events throughout the five boroughs of New York City, where Amida Care members and their guests learn about ways to improve their health. With support from the NYC Council Members, Amida Care is able to provide Live Your Life wellness events that are free and open to the public, with the goal of inspiring fitness and healthy living in the community.

Live Your Life” Community Wellness Events by Amida Care

“Amida Care’s ‘Live Your Life’ program grew out of direct member feedback that health care needs to be about more than visiting the doctor and taking pills. These events are designed to meet the social, physical, and emotional needs of our members and build important life skills. We thank Council Members Cornegy, Cumbo, and Torres for their support in bringing this interactive, healthy, and fun initiative to the Brooklyn and Bronx communities,” said Doug Wirth, President and CEO of Amida Care.

This is the third fiscal year that Amida Care has been funded to bring these events to the Council Members’ districts in Brooklyn and the Bronx. The events have featured a variety of exercise, fitness, and wellness techniques designed to give participants a basis for healthy living. Past events have covered such topics as African dance, Latin dance, art therapy, Zumba, and fitness classes.
