National Public Health Week: Celebrating Cultures and Communities

National Public Health Week

National Public Health Week takes place this year from Monday, April 3, through Sunday, April 9. This year’s theme, Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health, reflects the way our cultures shape our health and how community leaders are often also health leaders. This week-long celebration highlights the unique and joyful ways different cultures focus on health and how we can learn from each other.

During National Health Week, Amida Care honors our sponsor providers (Acacia NetworkCommunity Healthcare NetworkHarlem UnitedHousing WorksSun River HealthSt. Mary’s Center and VillageCare)–and all of our providers–for their efforts to serve the various communities and cultures of New York City. Their efforts to advance health equity for all, especially within LGBTQ+ communities and communities of color, are invaluable and greatly appreciated.

The importance of the city’s safety net health care during public health emergencies has become especially apparent during the past several years, with the COVID pandemic, outbreak of mpox, reemergence of polio, and spikes in flu and and RSV. An unprecedented number of asylum-seekers are currently looking to New York City and its safety net providers for care.

For these reasons and more, we salute our community health centers for their commitment to caring for all people.
