Transgender Awareness Week: We Stand Strong in Our Commitment to the Community
During Transgender Awareness Week (November 13 – 19), trans and gender-expansive people and their allies take action to amplify the stories and voices of the trans community, and recommit to standing up against prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the community. The week leads up to Transgender Day of Remembrance (November 20), which honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-trans violence.
With more than 3,300 trans and non-binary (TGNB) members, Amida Care is immensely proud to recognize Trans Awareness Week and the trust that the community has placed in us. Our Gender Identity Support Team (GIST) has been instrumental in successfully connecting with the TGNB community and providing our TGNB members with individualized support in their pursuit of gender-affirming services (GAS).
The 2022 U.S. Trans Survey (USTS), consisting of over 92,000 respondents, revealed the impact of gender-affirming care on the lives of those of transgender experience. Ninety-four percent of respondents who accessed gender-affirming health services reported they were more satisfied with their lives. This is why Amida Care’s GIST program is so important. We stand stronger than ever in our commitment to facilitating access to lifesaving, quality gender-affirming care.
To quote Amida Care Member Dawn-Jade Clover, “The woman I have always envisioned myself to be gets to live happy. And to be able to think back that I would never live my truth and was in a dark place mentally, to almost wanting to take my life, it really saddens me, and I want to give that girl a big hug and tell her that it is okay, and you are safe now. You’ve finally made it, Dawn-Jade, you are the woman of your dreams! And I have Amida Care to really thank for that, so thank you Amida Care, truly and sincerely.”
Thank you, Dawn-Jade and all of our TGNB members, for placing your trust in us; your happiness drives us to work harder and better for you.
