March 31 is International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), a day that celebrates the resilience and achievements of transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) people and raises awareness of transgender rights.

Unfortunately, in many areas of the U.S., trans people are forced to jump through hoops to get the health care they need to live their authentic lives, with devastating consequences to their physical and mental health. For instance, a recent CDC analysis shows that the trans community is deeply and disproportionately impacted by HIV.

Amida Care is proud to support our transgender or gender nonconforming members, who make up 20% of our total membership, or over 2,100 people. All health plans, both public and private, must support their members in accessing comprehensive gender-affirming care. This not only includes covering gender-affirming surgeries, but training staff and having an expansive network of providers with experience caring for transgender patients.
